The IPL is played using a double round-robin format. This means that each team plays against each other twice, once home and once away. The teams receives points based on winning or losing where the winner receives 2 points and the loser gets 0 points.
After all the games have been played, the top 4 teams are determined according to the amount of points that they have received. The winner plays against the team that came in 4th, and the 2nd place and 3rd place finishers play the second playoff game.
In the event of a tie in the standings, the Net Run Rate (NRR) will determine who has the highest ranking.
